i got this email today and i thought it was interesing enough to share with all of you:

Hello Everyone,
I'm sending this because there has been a request that the national anthem should be sung in different languages for those new Canadians because it is sung only in English or French.
Please read this response and see if you don't agree...
Bruce Allan is on the 2010 Olympic Committee and new Canadians want him fired for his recent comments.
It's time we all get behind Bruce Allen, and scrap this Political Correctness crap. His comments were anything but racist, but there are far too many overly-sensitive 'New Canadians' that are trying to change everything we hold dear.
Don't know what your opinions are, but I certainly agree.
I am sorry, but after hearing they want to sing the National Anthem in Hindi - enough is enough.
No where or at no other time in our nation's history, did they sing it in Italian, Japanese, Polish, Irish (Celtic), German, Portuguese, Greek, or any other language because of immigration. It was written in English, adapted into co-founding French, and should be sung word for word the way it was written.
The news broadcasts even gave the translation -- not even close.
I am not sorry if this offends anyone, this is MY COUNTRY - IF IT IS YOUR COUNTRY SPEAK UP!
Please pass this along~
I am not against immigration -- just come through like everyone else. Get a sponsor; have a place to lay your head; have a job; pay your taxes, live by the rules AND LEARN THE LANGUAGE as all other immigrants have in the past -- and LONG LIVE CANADA!
Think about this: If you don't want to forward this for fear of offending someone....
YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM !!!!
Will we still be the Country of Choice and still be CANADA if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries, who have come to live in CANADA because it is the Country of Choice??????
Think about it! IMMIGRANTS, NOT CANADIAN'S, MUST ADAPT.
It is Time for CANADA to Speak up.
If you agree -- pass this along; if you don't agree -- delete it!
Well for one thing, I don't know who or what Bruce Allan is or what his recent comments said or didn't say concerning those "new Canadians". However if those "new Canadians" did suggest that slop, then yes I agree but I would like some confirmation on this particular subject if possible.
Ok, but what does that have to do with our national anthem being sung in different languages?
In any case, he isn't singling out any specific group but nice of Sikhs and a particular aboriginal group to "play the race card" for themselves. The irony.
I did. Still has no reference to anthems and such. Did you not post this for discussion and opinions?
Well alrighty then.........
kitty, I'm the absolute last one you want to hear from on this subject. I cringe when I hear our anthem sung in English/French. I hate it. Canada's an English speaking country. End of story. Should be our national language IMHO. 99% of the country is English speaking. It makes me angry seeing French on our grocery products. The costs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OMG. Quebec's hold on our country makes me sick. Separate fast okay. That's my only complaint about this fine country we live in. That should explain my feelings towards any other language.
Actually no. In other languages, words and meanings sound and are different but I suppose you factored that in as well right?
Oops, somebody beat me to it.
First of all justkate, this is not an english speaking country period, it has two legal official languages english and french, and that is the law of the land.
Second I don't care what language anyone sings the song in, as long as they know the words which so many of our fellow canadians do not. I have friends that speak in some cases three or four languages and all I know is english, I wish I could speak more to communicate.
|I am actually thinking about taking some courses, if we can understand eachother we are less apt to be at each others throats.
No, I don't know the anthems history, but I'd much rather leave it the way it is than keep adding new languages to it. Canada has been french and english for hundreds of years, and are our official languages. As such the national anthem shouldn't be altered from these two languages.
