You'd think we were in Ireland with all the banshee screaming from the Cons.

I wouldn't fret too much...the cbc like ctv is a propaganda and excuse making machine for the conservatives. Just last night it was established that harper is a liar, mansbridge tried to defend him. Then it was mentioned his party bugged caucus meetings.End of interview.
Consider a honest media outlet the fun they would have with harper the liar and criminal...the discussions of all his criminal acts rammed down your throat till the nation gags...from bribery too espionage...the conservatives haven't had it this good in a while. The cbc is crammed with apologists and excuse makers for conservatives and still the conservative is not part of the 62% majority. Conservatives should be licking cbc butt if anything, without them they would be in jail.

Some Ottawa media, including the CBC, disparagingly noted last week that Harper called separatists ... uh ... separatists in his English speeches but sovereigntists in his French ones, their apparent point being this was intellectually dishonest.

First, since most people outside Quebec think of the Bloc as wanting to "separate" Quebec from Canada, while most inside Quebec see it wanting to make Quebec a "sovereign" state, it's logical to use different terms in English and French.

Second, the fact the CBC apparently considers this doublespeak -- the same folks who wouldn't call "terrorists" ... uh ... "terrorists" because of a policy enforced by former CBC editor-in-chief Tony Burman, now managing director of Al-Jazeera's English-language channel (not that there's anything wrong with that) -- is !@#$%$ hilarious

... and we pay out of our own pockets for this crap when the money can be better spent on some kids who can't go to camp or get a decent breakfast. The CBC is an undeserving PARASITE.

Maybe you like watching hours and hours of Survivor, So you Think you can Dance, and Idol, but I prefer watching TV that doesn't rot my brain and/or insult my intelligence while I watch. I'm obviously in the minority, but the CBC does a far better job of producing Canadian content than the private networks do.

I agree as well.

Ditto

Double ditto.

unfortunately the once every 10 years the CBC produces anything decent to watch, I don't think justifies the filling of the airwaves with another version of the aboriginal homeless network drivel.

The CBC is an important part of our Canadian culture and identity. Helping promote great canadian content television shows as well and get our news out in a Canadian way. It is important for us to be informed about every region of our country.

I only use the CBC as a source for online news and for streaming certain videos (i.e. Rick Mercer Report). Its French language counterpart is money well spent.

mtbr @ Mon Jan 12, 2009 1:35 pm

The CBC is useless crap filled with overpaid and under worked executives that suck up taxpayer money doing a job the private sector is more than suited for.

I know what Hayek and Mises would say. Need I say more.

Does that include the content that is a national embarrassment?
Is that why we don't see it directly translated into English?
Because they know the rest of Canada would be up in arms over that and demand it be changed and people be fired?

It's a national embarrassment for you? :|
That's just as sad as someone being ashamed of his heritage because of it.

Learn French.

Most of RoC could not care less. And neither could I.
