I also fail to see how someone else, who also watches Care Bears, can be deamed responisble for my actions by an illegitimate association. I'm not responsible for anyone else just because we share some common element in our lives.

   

What the hell they are supposed to do is that which any responsible citizen is expected to do if they are aware of the planned execution of a crime, namely to inform the police.

As we're discussing the Care Bears here (that you introduced), we're dealing with hypotheticals. However, if you want to discuss cases, there's an interesting side bar regarding the July attacks in London. A reputable daily newspaper in the UK conducted a survey among British Muslims. It found that 6% of British Muslims felt the suicide bombings of July 7th were "totally justified" (6% of the UK's muslim population is a mere 120,000 people). When asked if they would inform the police if they discovered that friends were planning a similar attack, 73% said that they would inform the police - that's pretty good - however, that means that 27% would not.

I fully support their right to be offended, that too is a part of freedom of speech. What I absolutely object to is their call for violence against both the cartoonists and anyone who supports what they did and why. Even the most tolerant of democracys do not support incitement to violence.

If the equivilent had happened the other way around, the most you would see here is a bunch of angry letters to the editor, some canceled subscriptions and maybe a few dozen protestors marching back and forth in front of the papers in question. In fact, Arabic newspapers have printed worse in the last few years and do you see people in the west threatening violence against the cartoonists or papers? See the Anti-Defamatiom League's site for some of the more ripe examples.

Western culture brings society forward.

Islamic culture keeps it mired in the Middle Ages.
