It's not a land claim at all it's an attempt at extortion(Mohawk Warriors are a criminal organization at best , a terrorist group at worst). Property value goes up the natives figure it's a quick way to make an easy buck. Good way to supplement those monthly cheques.
Agreed. And well said!
It’s a national shame that this generation forgets the contributions of Native people to this country.
Most of us live in the top 97th percentile of wealth in the world. The 30+ million people in Canada enjoy a lifestyle richer then over 6 Billion people.
What do we owe this to?
The vast resources of the land we live on. Land that was occupied and used by hundreds of tribes of First Nations who "willingly" signed treaties to share the land with our white brothers.
It’s too bad that this idea of sharing was something foreign to white people.
Confining Indians to reserves, not letting them participate in the market, stealing their land, sending their children to be re-programmed...
Its time to make amends. We can forgive you and your forefathers for the past injustices. But that does not mean we should let our people live in third world conditions on their land while you reap the benefits of it.
It’s a national shame that First Nations people live in poverty and third-world conditions after signing treaties as equals with the Canadians.
It’s a shame that you have to insult me by referring to my "Monthly Cheque" when I am a university educated specialist who pays taxes like thousands and thousands of other people including many of the protesters at Caledonia.
And it's an insult to this site where we claim "Canada Kicks Ass" yet some of us support the racist, intolerant views of those who do not understand the history of our country.
We haven't forgotten, we just see it as the past. We don't want you guys to be living in reserves and being isolated from us. We want you to be just like the rest of canada, working for a living, paying taxes, contributing to society. Maybe if every native lived just like you and wasn't an economic burden on society there woulnd't be any problems. Your the ones who want to live in candian funded reserves, your the ones who demand reperations. I'm not saying you should all drop your culutural heritage, but maybe natives need to forget about everything that happened a long time ago and think about the present state of the world. and maybe some natives like some in Caledonia need to start considering themselves canadian and not a sovereing nation. that really pisses me off

If we do not agree with your blinkered mind set we are racists. You will just lose more support from your 'white brothers' when your claims are dubious and you break the law, the same law 6 Nations fled the US to be protected by.
Very hypocritical Donny.
Dubious? Are you an expert? Do you know the story of this particular claim?
Back up your words, show me how dubious this seicific claim is.
PJB @ Thu Apr 27, 2006 10:07 am
Donny..I guess it depends on which source you want to look at. Native based sites are full of justification for this 'peaceful' occupation while other sites discredit those claims.
Like they say: There are two sides to every story.
Depends on whether we want to believe one side or the other.

The land was sold by 6 Nations in the 19th Century, fairly and squarely, albeit it was a bad move, the same bad move plenty of Loyalists made, do they get the land back that was sold nearly 200 years ago?
No mention of the fact that 6 Nations are immigrants from you though eh?
Doesn't jive with the "this is our land stolen from us by the whites" crap really does it?
6 nations came from the US for protection by the British Crown. The same Crown gave them lands for loyal service, 6 Nations sold of chunks of the land over the years. It's straight forward stuff.
The historical facts sometimes get in the way of your little slogans eh?
None of this justfies breaking the law, the same law 6 Nations came to Upper Canada to be protected by. The same law we all have to abide by.
It does you no credence to flout the very laws your brave ancestors came to this land to be protected by. Lose the bullshit "we have been here forever" crap because you haven't, not 6 Nations.

So what you’re saying is that you are arguing about a specific piece of land based on the broad assumption that the Mohawk have no right to claim land that was given to them by the Crown?
Do you have access to the land title information, land transfers, voting records (since I know you know at least enough to know a vote of the band must have taken place before any transfer of land to another party).
Was there a legal transfer of that plot of land to a 3rd party? If you can show me a scrap of evidence to support your case besides your 2 broad statements (which I am not disputing):
1) The Mohawk in question occupy land that was traditionally Algonquin territory but left vacant due to migration and disease.
2) The Crown "gave" that land to the Mohawk in recognition of their contributions to the fight against the Americans.
Find me this evidence and I will shut up.
However, I believe you are simply arguing based on hearsay and have no actual personal involvement and more then likely no clue what their 1987 land claim actually says.
I'm not sure why you would argue so vehemently against the Mohawk besides personal prejudice.
You must have some concrete evidence, because I know you and your group of CKA blabbermouths are by no means prejudice and racist (are you?)!
I would sure like to see this evidence.

Sorry but your rant didn't focus on which evidence you actually want? I can point you in the right direstion of some good history books but from your previous posts I don't think you will let little things like the facts take you away from your rants.
Show me where it says in any Treaty with 6 Nations that you can ignore the laws of the Crown, terrorise a whole community, stop trains etc, all without a finger being lifted by the forces of law and order.
At least you admit it wasn't your land to start off with.
You (as in present day natives) will earn my respect when you stop getting freebies that the rest of Canada doesn't get.
I see no difference in Six Nations than the UEL's. The UEL's don't get free education, no taxes, welfare up the ying yang etc.
Why should you guys be any different, you are immigrants in Canada, just like most of the rest of us, why the hell should you get any special deals?
Clear the shit off the road, act like grown-ups, defend your point of view rationally then I for one will listen.
Threaten us, talk utter shite about how racist we are and blag us about the land being rightfully yours with sod all basis and you will just be more sidelined than you are now.

A hundred and how many years later you are ready to listen?
You admitted that they were given the land by the Crown.
You are arguing that they have no claim.
You have not a shread of evidence saying that this land was taken from them legally!
How much more rational can I be?
You are arguing against their land claim based on WHAT??
These people ahve been screwed for years by rational white men like yourself. Litterally and figeratively. Its time to shut up and listen to what they are saying!

Everythin's the white mans fault...those damn crackers....stole my land hundreds of years ago and so the blame passes to the current people, stole my 50,000 dollar truck that the government pays for me....even my new casino that pumps billions into aboriginal coffers but the leaders are too corrupt and so the blame goes to the damn white man....
A Natives tale of woe.
PJB @ Thu Apr 27, 2006 12:54 pm
Tman1..Like I keep saying..Get used to it. Your children and your children's children and your children's children's children are going to grow up listening to the same guilt trip from every native in this country until either they get everything or we finally get sick of hearing it.
EyeBrock EyeBrock:

The Indians should be given that land....one bucketful at a time.
Pluggy, this 'land claim' is all bollocks.
6 Nations were given that land by King George III, and they sold it off, just like some of the idiot white guys did at the time.
It would be like a load of Italian guys saying that Manchester was once Mancunia under the Roman Empire and you owe us 2000 years of back taxes.
Get real!
Did you miss the.... [sarcasm]"one bucketful at time"[/sarcasn]

You mean its legal to steal land from immigrants? I wonder how long it would take you to get your house back if I moved in withour permission. 200 years?

Donny...But the natives never lived on that land. At least not in the past 150 years. When does the right to own unoccupied lands end? Do these natives plan to live on these lands? Kinda doubt it. Does anyone know exactly where these protesters live? Kinda doubt if it is around there.
