I have a lot of friends who went to catholic school, and ya catholic schools aren't as bad as some people make it out to be.

   

My sons school is not without its dirty little secrets too. The nuns have cooked the books so thoroughly that they are literally a burnt offering unto the Lord. A 12 year old student was molested early in the year, and the the nun described it as the teacher being in love with her. The guy was 40! Another 'instructor' was allowed to continue teaching for 5 months after coming to school multiple times under the influence of ketamine. The nun figured that he needed a chance to solve his problems, because he was a 'good Catholic'. Another teacher was beating the shit out of her grade 2 class, but since she too was a 'good Catholic' it was allowed to continue, even after other non Catholic teachers complained about it, students were withdrawn from the school and lawsuits were launched. One teacher, a non Catholic was fired for breaking up a fight between students in G. 6. He discovered three boys putting the boots to one other boy and one of the students reprimanded happened to be the son of a major contributor to the nuns. The fact that this kid was a known bully and rigleader meant nothing. Well money trumped morality, common in Catholicism, and the teacher was canned for traumatizing the bullies, after he yelled at them.
Part of the problem at my son's school is the fact that it is largely administered by Philipino nuns. Third World mentalities coupled with a lack of education is not a good mix. Needless to say, the school now finds itself in serious legal troubles and is in serious threat of being shut down. Reap what you sow.

   

No, not all are. Neither were all the Residential Schools that natives went too, but they all bear the taint of a few bad apples.

Doesn't that describe the attitudes of Christians in general? Regardless of what awful things you've done, if you hand your soul over to Christ, it'll all be forgiven. Seems to be a major flaw in the dogma of those who often claim to have a monopoly on morality.

I don't know how many times I've heard someone pardoned for their behaviour because they're "good Christians".

   

Yes, but in this case he continued to teach and come to school pissed and stoned out of his tree. The nun thought it was good for him to work his problems out in front of his class. Oh yeah, he was also their(the nuns) pick for the guidance counsellor and the ethics and morality class. I should mention that he was also a failed priest.

Jesus didn't die for MY sins because I wasn't born yet. That is more catholic dogma. Which by the way, the vatican rewrites as it suits their needs.
NOTE: The vatican has announced recently that purgatory no longer exists,if in fact it ever did!

I went to Catholic boarding school- Edmonton's infamous St. Mary's school for boys run by the Salisians. (Any other alumni out there?) Anyway, they used to smack us around a bit but I'll tell you that every time I was struck I deserved it. I never heard of any priest or Brother sexually assaulting anyone.
