Do you consider this a hate crime?
Tricks Tricks:
Blue_Nose Blue_Nose:
See, you're missing the whole point of these "freedoms" - if someone has the right to express themselves by putting poppies in turds, then they're legally protected from your violent reaction - if you attacked them, you'd go to jail.
I know I would go to jail. I still would want to hurt them. That doesn't change anything.
Well, we're talking legal rights here, so it changes a lot. You're not free to punch someone out, whether you want to or not.
You'll find "legal" and "right" don't always overlap.. mainly because both are, for the most part, subjective.
Tricks Tricks:

Harassing Muslims in this manner is no different than those who put burning crosses on the lawns of black people, or spray paint slurs on Churches - the fact that you find bacon trivial doesn't take away from the fact that they're being harassed in their place of worship for no apparent reason. You don't have the freedom to do that in Canada or the US.
Those examples are showing hate though. This isn't showing absolute hate. It's showing absurdity in the religion. It's mean, I am not arguing that. But if that was a hate crime, then me saying any religion that restricts you from eating a certain type of food is retarded, then that's a hate crime too. In just the bacon in the book, it doesn't show any hate. It shows how stupid their religion may be, but not hate.
Putting it on their steps, crosses the line - making public commentary on the ridiculousness of a religion is fine, but when it's interfering with their ability to freely engage in their beliefs without being harassed, it's stepping over the legal line. You're simply giving these people the benefit of the doubt to make a point, when it's obvious their intent.

Hokay.
Criminal Code of Canada Criminal Code of Canada:
Section 318: Hate Propaganda
(1) Every one who advocates or promotes genocide is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.
Not applicable.
$1:
Section 319
(1) Every one who, by communicating statements in any public place, incites hatred against any identifiable group where such incitement is likely to lead to a breach of the peace is guilty of
(a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.
I take it this is the section in question?
If so (which I may be
wrong) then the bolded is key. They are not inciting anything.
$1:
Wilful promotion of hatred
(2) Every one who, by communicating statements, other than in private conversation, wilfully promotes hatred against any identifiable group is guilty of
(a) an indictable offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or
(b) an offence punishable on summary conviction.
This could also pertain to this situation. However, they are not promoting hate in my opinion. They are expressing dislike. But not saying, hey, you should hate these people.
The rest doesn't really have anything to do with this.....I think.

So because it was at a mosque, that's what made it a hate crime? That wasn't said in your definition. Unless I missed it.

Guilty

We are both assuming their intent to make a point.

if it pisses off moslems then thats the punchline..and moslems are far more dirty than pigs
wow you live in such a small world dude .
tell you what fatbasturd..go to page 3 of this thread..that'll give you a thorough insight on my perspective of moslems
Seriously you bigoted douche bag. Shut up.
uh..wasnt it you who used the signature "seek out all the mushikeer and kill them koran 9:5 they want to kill me

sometime back?? better a bigoted douche bag than a hypocrite
Yes I did. I was point out the insanity of that particular religion. Would you be happy if I now put one from the Bible?
what an interesting coincident..in page 3 of this thread i was doing the exact same thing
And you crossed the line when you said all Muslims are dirty, or they should all fuck off. That's different then point out how ridiculous something is.
its fairly obvious i have no problems stating my disgust towards islam..to reiterate AGAIN theres no law that says i have to like them..just as theres no law that says they have to like me..unless you thoroughly read my post directed to brenda on page 3 this is becoming very pointless discussing this with you..how much more grief do moslems have to inflict upon the international community before you decide to stop acting as their advocate??
I don't advocate them at all. I don't want muslims lumped into one group which you enjoy doing. One of my friends from school was a muslim. I didn't agree with his beliefs, but he is still my friend.

For this very reason. They knew asshats like you would scream hate crime and they would go to jail.

The reason they just dropped the book and ran is more than likely beacause they knew what they were doing was illegal and lacked the courage of ther convictions.
It wasn't illegal. It was freedom of expression. And why would someone stick around when he knows little pansy asses like you are going to get him or her in shit. That's really bright.
Just because they are smarter then you doesn't mean they don't lack courage. Just putting the book there took some courage.
So you've resorted to simple namecalling and insults ? Now I can see why you have sided with the cowards, you believe insults are a healthy part of making a point. Smarter than me, that's an interesting little IQ test.

No it isn't, the difference between this and showing the "absurdity of religion" is very clear. You say religion is absurd and any dietary rules based on faith are ridiculous that's ok, you go and deliberately put the restricted food for a faith in their religious book on teh steps of their place of worship its not ok

tricks..i find no enjoyment in getting pissy with you whatsoever for the simple reason youve made some excellent posts that i found impressive which is kind of cool considering youre only 17 and i'm 45..but if this muslim is in fact your friend hes in direct violation of his religion..and i'm starting to think you havent thoroughly read my post on page 3 or was very selective as to what you wanted to absorb..heres the deal..read it again..and if you can find any falsehoods in what i stated i'd be more than happy to apologize to you and the islamic community but a fair warning is in order..i cant see it happening

I think it's a pretty clear statement of hatred based on religion. You can argue it isn't, but I don't see any reason to assume the guilty parties had innocent, "fun poking" intents, or ment to simply make a satirical comment on religious tenets.
This is not a hate crime. This is "artistic expression".

For the same reasons arguing against the reasons for war and urinating on a memorial are two different matters.
